Kyle Norman, a member of the R&B group Jagged Edge, was arrested in Atlanta, Georgia Thursday morning on charges of aggravated assault after he allegedly shoved an engagement ring down his fiancé’s throat during an altercation at the couple’s home.

According to local CBS affiliate WGCL-TV, police arrived at the home to find Norman’s fiancée with a “golf ball-sized knot” on her forehead, a cut on her nose, and a burst blood vessel in her right eye. The unnamed woman reportedly told police that Norman had punched and choked her, before forcing her engagement ring down her throat in an attempt to choke her further.

The couple were reportedly fighting over Norman’s drinking when he allegedly became abusive. According to the report, Norman broke his fiancée’s cell phone and took her car keys when she attempted to leave.

After she was able to somewhat calm her soon-to-be-husband, the woman fled to a neighbor’s house, where she called police.

According to the report, Norman was quoted as saying, “I need to go to jail,” when officers arrived to arrest him.

Jagged Edge has put out eight studio albums; their hit song “Let’s Get Married” reached #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2000.
