In a Wednesday appearance on MSBNC’s “Morning Joe,” country music singer Tim McGraw re-affirmed his commitment to play the gun control fundraiser for Sandy Hook Promise and acknowledged that he is leading with heart rather than his mind on this one.

McGraw said pointedly, “If I have a decision to lead with my head or my heart, I’m going to lead with my heart every time.”

Host Joe Scarborough approached the subject by saying, “By the way, I’m a Connecticut guy, and I want to thank you for what you’ve done to help the people in Sandy Hook. That means the world for our community, it really does.”

McGraw responded:

Back to leading with your heart. When you’ve been given great opportunities–I’m a dad, I’m a brother, I’m a husband, I’m a son–and when you see things where you can help, and you see situations that you can help in, I’m an artist, I’m going to lead with my heart.

I lead my life leading with my heart, I do the things that I can do and support the causes that I support, try to help in the areas where I can help, and I do that with my heart. If I have a decision to lead with my head or my heart, I’m going to lead with my heart every time.

Breitbart News previously reported that McGraw is headlining a fundraiser for Sandy Hook Promise — a gun control group which currently supports gun confiscation bill SB 941 in Oregon, which opposed arming teachers for self-defense in Georgia in 2014, and which has maintained ongoing support for expanded background checks at the federal and state level.

The expanded background check push was originally made by Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) in the wake of the Sandy Hook attack, but was defeated because some argued such checks would not have hampered Adam Lanza in the slightest, since Lanza reportedly stole the guns he used in the tragedy.

That was neglected by McGraw, however, because McGraw said he was leading with his heart, not his head.
