WATCH: Tom Cruise is Back as Ethan Hunt in ‘Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation’ Trailer

Tom Cruise returns as IMF agent Ethan Hunt in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, hitting theaters this weekend.

The new film finds Hunt squaring off against the Syndicate, an organization bent on destroying the IMF.

Rogue Nation puts Cruise back together with Christopher McQuarrie, who directed the actor in 2012’s Jack Reacher. McQuarrie wrote and directed this latest installment in the long-running M:I franchise, while Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner, Rebecca Ferguson, Alec Baldwin, and Ving Rhames also star.

In a cool moment from the trailer, Hunt tries to track down a safe submerged underwater.

According to Business Insider, Cruise actually made the 120-foot jump seen in the trailer and trained for months to hold his breath so he could complete the underwater scenes without the use of a stuntman.

“On two or three occasions I brought him up [for air] because I felt he was down for too long,” stunt coordinator Wade Eastwood told BI. “He was like, ‘What are you doing? I was right in the moment. I’m acting.’ And I was like, ‘I know, it was just too real for me and I wasn’t comfortable.'”

Cruise reportedly held his breath for more than six minutes during one take.

Earlier this month, the filmmakers released a new trailer showing the extent of Cruise’s dedication to doing his own stunts:

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation hits theaters Friday, July 31.
