WATCH: Early Test Footage of Chris Farley as Voice of ‘Shrek’

A previously unreleased video of test footage featuring late comedian Chris Farley voicing the animated ogre Shrek has leaked online.

Farley was originally supposed to play the now-iconic ogre in the film before he died of a drug overdose in 1997.

The late comedian, who became known for his physical comedy on “Saturday Night Live” and later, in films like Tommy Boy and Black Sheep, reportedly recorded almost all of the dialogue for the film before his untimely death.

Mike Myers eventually stepped into the role and the film became a massive hit for Dreamworks in 2001.

In the above clip, Shrek and Donkey (Eddie Murphy) sit around a campfire and have a conversation. Some of the lines are recognizable from the 2001 movie (“Oh, this is one of those onion things.” “No, this is one of those ‘drop it and leave it alone’ things”).

It sounds like the movie would have been radically different with Farley’s voice in the title role, as Myers adopted a heavy Scottish accent when he took over.

Check out the never-before-seen test footage above.
