WATCH: Heart-Pounding Trailer for 3D Thriller ‘Everest’

“Human beings simply aren’t built to function at the cruising altitude of a 747.”

So opens the heart-pounding second trailer for the upcoming 3D thriller Everest, which was released online last week.

The film is inspired by the true story of a 1996 climbing expedition that went wrong when a massive storm killed five climbers and injured many more on the famously dangerous mountain, which sits on the border of Nepal, China, and Tibet in the Himalayas.

Director Baltasar Kormákur, known for more traditional, stripped-down action films like 2 Guns and Contraband, looks to up his game with this film, for which he reportedly travelled to Nepal to shoot on location.

Everest boasts a powerhouse cast, including Jake Gyllenhaal, Keira Knightley, Sam Worthington, Robin Wright, Josh Brolin, Jason Clarke, Emily Watson and John Hawkes.

The film was scripted by Oscar-winning screenwriter Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) and two-time Oscar nominee William Nicholson (Shadowlands, Gladiator).

The movie hits theaters September 25.
