The first trailer for the highly-anticipated Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) starring vehicle Trumbo was released this week.
Trumbo tells the story of legendary screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, who was blacklisted from Hollywood in the 1940s after refusing to testify in front of the House Un-American Activities Committee for allegedly propagating Communist material through his work.
Trumbo continued to work around the blacklist, writing dozens of films under assumed names, including Spartacus and the Steve McQueen-Dustin Hoffman starrer Papillon.
Trumbo won two Oscars for his writing; one for 1953’s Roman Holiday, and one for 1956’s The Brave One. But because he was blacklisted, the awards were presented to stand-ins and Trumbo didn’t receive his awards until many years later. The Oscar for The Brave One was presented posthumously to Trumbo’s widow in 1993, according to IMDb.
Trumbo stars Cranston, Diane Lane, Helen Mirren, Elle Fanning, John Goodman, Louis C.K., Michael Stuhlbarg and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.
Jay Roach (Meet the Parents, The Campaign) directs off a script from John McNamara (Aquarius).
