Ryan Gosling often goes months without using Twitter; but for his birthday on Thursday, the actor broke his latest three month-long silence on the social media platform by sharing a video of Democrat presidential candidate Bernie Sanders at a recent campaign stop.
For his 35th birthday, the Canadian-born actor urged his nearly 2 million Twitter followers to do him “a solid” and “pass this around.”
The video Gosling linked is from a town hall Sanders conducted last month at George Mason University in Virginia, where a Muslim student asked the candidate how he would combat so-called Islamophobia in the United States.
After hugging the student, to loud cheers from the audience, Sanders explained: “Let me be very personal here, if I might. I’m Jewish. My father’s family died in the concentration camps. I will do everything that I can to rid this country of the ugly stain of racism which has existed for far too many years.”
With the tweet, Gosling joins a list of 128 other “artists and cultural leaders” who signed an open letter in September endorsing Sanders, including actors Mark Ruffalo, Will Ferrell, Danny DeVito, John C. Reilly, and Sarah Silverman.
