Rob Lowe Takes Heat for Paris Tweets Criticizing French Immigration Policy, President Hollande

Actor Rob Lowe came under fire from social media users Friday for several Tweets he posted shortly after the terrorist attacks in Paris began.

“Vive La France!” the Grinder star wrote in the first of several Twitter posts Friday night.

Shortly after posting the first message, Lowe seemingly criticized French President Francois Hollande for his country’s immigration policy. He later suggested that Hollande’s televised speech to the country on Friday night  was “one of the worst ever given.”

Critics quickly piled on the actor, calling him a “piece of lowlife scum” and an “atrocious human being.”

Lowe later returned to Twitter to defend his remarks, saying he had previously lived in France, and told followers not to “misinterpret” his original comments.

The backlash was still going strong on Sunday, when Lowe appeared on Fox before the NFL games kicked off:
