Actress Emma Stone will play Rose Marie “Rosemary” Kennedy, the sister of President John F. Kennedy, in an upcoming film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The site reports Stone, 27, will play the eldest Kennedy sister in Letters From Rosemary, which is a Black List script written by Nick Yarborough.

Rosemary, who was also the sister of U.S. Senators Bobby and Ted Kennedy, apparently suffered from intellectual disabilities and began exhibiting behavioral issues in her teens that bothered her father, Joseph Kennedy Sr.

Tragically, when Rosemary was 23, in 1941, Joe Kennedy arranged for her to undergo a prefrontal lobotomy, which left her mentally incapacitated until her 2005 death.

Joe Kennedy reportedly kept her condition a secret from both the public and his family, as he believed the truth about her disabilities and botched lobotomy could harm his family’s political ambitions.

THR reports Letters From Rosemary will be co-produced by Steve Golin and Doug Wald of Anonymous Content (Spotlight), Allard Cantor, Jarrod Murray, and Richard Arlook.

No further details about the project have been made available.
