Watch: Winnie the Pooh Creator Finds Inspiration in ‘Goodbye Christopher Robin’ Trailer

Fox Searchlight has released the first trailer for its upcoming biopic Goodbye Christopher Robin, which tells the life story of Winnie the Pooh creator A.A. Milne.

“Once upon a time there was a great war that brought so much sadness to so many people,” actress Kelly MacDonald narrates the new trailer. “Hardly anyone could remember what happiness was like. But something happened that changed all that. It helped us believe in the good things, the fun things. And a world of imagination. And then, just like a tap you turned on, happiness came pouring out.”

Domhnall Gleeson stats as Milne in the period film, with Margot Robbie playing his wife Daphne. Milne, a veteran of both World War I and World War II, drew inspiration for his best-selling Winnie the Pooh series from his son’s stuffed animals. The author and playwright named the protagonist of the books after his own son, Christopher Robin.

Simon Curtis (Woman in Gold, My Week with Marilyn) directs the film off of a screenplay by Frank Cottrell Boyce and Simon Vaughan. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Alex Lawther, and Stephen Campbell Moore co-star.

Goodbye Christopher Robin is in theaters October 13.
