Trailer For Charlie Sheen 9/11 Movie Sparks Backlash: ‘Offensive,’ ‘Tasteless’

The trailer for Charlie Sheen and Whoopi Goldberg’s upcoming film about the September 11 terrorist attacks has been released, with many social media users calling it “offensive” and “tasteless.”

The trailer for Charlie Sheen’s upcoming film, 9/11, was released this week, and some people are not happy. Social media users were quick to pile on the film for appearing to be an attempt to turn the horrific real-life terrorist attack into a disaster/thriller movie.

The film also stars Whoopi Goldberg, Gina Gershon and Luis Guzmán in lead roles. The film will reportedly center around five people stuck inside an elevator during the 9/11 attacks who must rely on each other and the power of hope in order to survive. 9/11 is co-written and directed by Martin Guigui, whose resumé boasts titles such as The Bronx Bull and Beneath The Darkness.

9/11 is set to be released on September 8 and the trailer, which features a scene in which Sheen utters the line, “They say it’s not the fall that kills you…” before the elevator he’s in begins hurtling towards the ground, can be seen below.

Many Twitter users expressed their dismay and shock at the film’s premise and casting choices.
