Watch: Getty Grandson Kidnapped in First Trailer for ‘All the Money in the World’

Ridley Scott tackles the real-life kidnapping of then-richest man in the world J. Paul Getty’s grandson in the first trailer for All the Money in the World.

John Paul Getty III was 16 years old in July 1973 when he was kidnapped by members of the Italian mafia and held for ransom. The kidnappers originally demanded $17 million, but Getty Sr., the boy’s grandfather, refused to pay up, until the younger Getty’s ear was delivered to his father in a box.

All the Money in the World stars Charlie Plummer as Getty III, along with Kevin Spacey as Getty Sr., Michelle Williams as the boy’s mother, Gail Harris, and Mark Wahlberg as ex-CIA agent on the case Fletcher Chase.

Scott directed off a screenplay by David Scarpa (The Day the Earth Stood Still).

Sony Pictures releases All the Money in the World on December 8.
