Hollywood superstar Chris Pratt surprised a group of moviegoers when he made an appearance at a California theater that was hosting a benefit for children of law enforcement who have cancer.

The star of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom came to the fundraiser at the Vacaville Brenden Theaters in Vacaville, CA. On their Facebook page, the Vacaville Police Department explained that the proceeds from tickets purchased for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, would go to help the cancer-stricken children of law enforcement.

Pratt not only attended the event but watched the movie with guests as well.

The Guardians of the Galaxy star’s brother, Daniel “Cully” Pratt, is a deputy with the Solano County sheriff’s Office and believed to be largely responsible for his brother’s unexpected appearance.

“The room was filled with both shock and laughter for the entire event,” the police department wrote in the Facebook post. “Most importantly, those who truly needed this fun day got some time to enjoy the festivities alongside their families.”

“We were so excited to be a part of a remarkable event to combine a charitable auction with entertainment that no one really saw coming,” Vacaville Police Department’s Facebook page read.
The group message continued:

This afternoon, many local community members had purchased tickets to the new “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” movie at the Vacaville Brenden Theaters. These tickets were not just for the movie event however, they also participated in an amazing charity event organized within the local theater to raise money for children of Law Enforcement families suffering from cancer. These incredibly strong, young children who also attended the event have been through unthinkable challenges and the opportunity to help raise money for their families is a priceless event in of itself.

Little did anyone know that the star of the movie Chris Pratt would surprise everyone and show up to participate with the charity auction and even stay to watch the movie! The room was filled with both shock and laughter for the entire event. Most importantly, those who truly needed this fun day got some time to enjoy the festivities alongside their families.

We would like to thank the staff at the Vacaville Brenden Theater, as well as a huge thank you to the Solano County Sheriff’s Department who played an intricate role in making this happen! Bruce Simpson from the Brenden Corporate office partnered with Deputy Daniel “Cully” Pratt from the Solano County Sheriff’s Department to organize this event. Mr. Simpson is well known among law enforcement communities and works tirelessly to help those in need and those efforts are supported by Brenden Theaters. Deputy Pratt happens to be Chris Pratt’s brother, and for sure has some awesome connections! And a special thanks to Chris Pratt for stopping by our wonderful town and putting a smile on all of our faces today!

Pratt’s appearance at the theater comes only days after he made an impassioned plea for young people to turn to Christ, at the MTV Movie and TV Awards.

“God is real. God loves you. God wants the best for you. Believe that. I do,” Pratt told the audience. “Learn to pray. It’s easy and it’s so good for your soul.”
