Actress Glenn Close is discouraged by the state of America today and, like most Hollywood celebrities, she believes it is all President Donald Trump’s fault.

At the D.C. premiere of her new film, The Wife, Close insisted that the state of politics today is “tricky” and “scary” for her, The Hill reported.

The Fatal Attraction star also thinks the U.S. Constitution is in danger: “I feel that our Constitution is not being defended and I feel that many of the things that this country was founded on … [are] being threatened.”

The Fatal Attraction star said she wants leaders who live a “high intellectual life,” who have a “real moral sense,” and who understand that the Constitution is “fragile.”

“Well, I’m a great reader of history, so, you know, I’ve read the Churchill biographies and I’ve read the John Adams books, and I’ve read about Teddy Roosevelt, so those… are the standards that I expect from our leaders,” she boasted.

Close did not offer any specific examples to illustrate her concerns over the Constitution.

The Oscar-nominated actress’s new film follows the self-realization of the wife of a famous writer that Close thinks is a timely topic in light of Hollywood’s #MeToo movement. The actress claimed that her film “fits right in there” with the drive to recognize the plight of women.

“My two grandmothers didn’t go to college; my mother didn’t go to college. I was actually the first girl in my family to go to college,” Close said speaking of portraying a woman discovering herself in the era before the rise of feminism.

The Wife has been well-received by critics, and some industry watchers say Close may earn another Oscar nomination for her portrayal in it.
The film, co-starring Jonathan Pryce and Christian Slater, is being presented by Sony Pictures and will debut nationwide on August 24.
