A girl can’t make a video with a respectful hat tip to the Marines anymore without some notoriety-seeking feminist jumping on the project’s coattails so as to complain about it. I’m talking of

Have you all seen the Katy Perry Marines video? It is a total piece of propaganda for the Marines…I really want to find out if she was paid by them for making it…it is truly shameful. I would suggest a boycott of this singer whom I really liked — if you are as offended at this glorification of violence as I am.

Propaganda is more along the lines of this: Wolf blurring the line between reporter and activist and getting herself arrested as a stunt to be captured in flashbulbs so she can later write about it as a way to drop her book’s title in the opening graphs.
I went over to the sidewalk at issue and identified myself as a NYC citizen and a reporter, and asked to see the permit in question or to locate the source on the police or event side that claimed it forbade citizen access to a public sidewalk. Finally a tall man, who seemed to be with the event, confessed that while it did have a permit, the permit did allow for protest so long as we did not block pedestrian passage.
I thanked him, returned to the protesters, and said: “The permit allows us to walk on the other side of the street if we don’t block access. I am now going to walk on the public sidewalk and not block it. It is legal to do so. Please join me if you wish.”
Arrive, ID self as a reporter, then promptly join the protest. The resulting copy and spin isn’t propaganda at all, but somehow going all Rihanna or Sade in your video is — videos which, interestingly enough, Wolf doesn’t mention. Wolf’s reaction to the video is classic progressivism: a video showcasing just how hardcore and powerful women can be is met with self-victimization by another woman. It’s almost as if her reaction was written to serve as a brilliant marketing technique to accompany Perry’s video. Unfortunately, I cannot find within me the obtuseness required for such a suspension of disbelief.
Wolf’s reaction to the video and her suggestion that portraying the Marines in a nice manner is a “glorification of violence” betrays her prejudice against our military. It’s due to the effort of those Marines that Wolf is able to play keyboard revolutionary on American soil. She believes spending a few minutes outside and getting arrested in her evening gown en route to a one-percenter event is a worthier effort than leaving your family to fly far from home and eat MREs in sweltering temperatures so a bitter, feminist writer can exercise the right to free speech (which you protect) — and then complain about your efforts to secure it. Spare me your self-righteous indignation. Don’t complain about the free choice of a woman to make such a video or cut down the work of our sisters in the military. How very anti-feminist.
Kudos to Perry for making a video so unlike what we see in Hollywood, where our men and women in uniform are denigrated by trust-fund socialists as zombified killing machines performing lowly tasks. Kudos to Perry for showing a video of free women exercising their right to choose how they want to live their lives. And kudos again to Perry for making a music video which shows how women can be empowered beyond flashing T&A to win male approval.
I guess if you don’t find value in those things, you’d be offended. Please boycott it, Ms. Wolf. I wouldn’t want the quality of your self-victimizing faux-support diluting the pure kick-assedness of this video.
