Columnist Who Blamed Gun for Belcher Murder/Suicide Called NRA 'New KKK'

Jason Whitlock, the Fox Sports columnist who suggested that Jovan Belcher’s murder-suicide could be blamed on America’s “gun culture,” followed up those idiotic comments with another set today: he told CNN’s Roland Martin that “the NRA is the new KKK.”

Never mind that one of the chief goals of the KKK was to disarm black men so they could victimize them. Never mind that there are many black members of the NRA. Whitlock said that the NRA had victimized swaths of the black community, who simply couldn’t make cognizant decisions on their own behalf:

I believe the NRA is the new KKK. And that the arming of so many black youths, uh, and loading up our community with drugs, and then just having an open shooting gallery, is the work of people who obviously don’t have our best interests.

Whitlock has, in the past, gotten himself into dicey racial territory; after then-Knicks star Jeremy Lin, who is Asian, dropped 38 points on the LA Lakers last year, Whitlock tweeted, “Some lucky lady in NYC is gonna feel a couple inches of pain tonight.”
