CNN's 'New Day' Ratings Soft; Beats 'Morning Joe' in Key Demo

Jeff Zucker’s biggest CNN programming change thus far is “New Day,” a completely revamped weekday morning show hosted by Chris Cuomo, Michaela Pereira, and Kate Bolduan. The week after its debut, ratings certainly aren’t yet living up to the hype that surrounded Monday’s premiere, but there is a silver lining.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that the show averaged 302k viewers during its 6 am to 9 am  timeslot. That is down from the previous month. In the key 25-54 demo, though, the show is beating its MSNBC competition, “Morning Joe,” with 102k to 101k respective viewers.

What “New Day” is not doing, however, is improving on the show it replaced — a placeholder program put in place after Soledad O’Brien was fired. Compared to last month, “New Day” is “down 21 percent and 37 percent from the most recent monthly average.”
