Politico Begins Sanctification Of Wendy Davis

Politico Begins Sanctification Of Wendy Davis

Politico has tried to positioned itself as the go-to political journal for all things Beltway. So why are they devoting so much ink and web pages to a state senator from Texas? No less than 48 different references to Sen. Wendy Davis (D-Ft. Worth) appear on Politico over the past ten days.

You haven’t seen this kind of deification since Elizabeth Warren made news with a viral video making the case for big government liberal spending programs. From that moment Warren became the front-runner for Senate in Massachusetts and eventually won the race against incumbent Scott Brown. Is the attention paid to Davis a pre-curser for her eventual senate bid? Or is it just wishful thinking?

One thing it isn’t is hard news and analysis. Most of the pages devoted to Saint Wendy are just regurgitations of what celebrities like Ricky Gervais and Roseanne Barr said on Twitter.

And let’s not forget the “QUIZ: How well do you know Wendy Davis?” featuring such newsworthy items as her college mascot (a horned frog), the fast-food restaurant she worked at in high school (Orange Julius), and of course, a dramatic photo of the Nikes she wore during her filibuster.
