The Associated Press disguised a partisan attack as news Tuesday, but did so with breathtaking dishonestly. In a story titled “Fears over Zimmerman Verdict Riots Prove Overblown,” the subtext is that conservatives like Glenn Beck are racist for fearing their might be violence after the not-guilty verdict in the Zimmerman case. The only problem is that President Obama also publicly expressed concerns about violence.
Oh, the AP does mention Obama’s post-verdict comments, but conspicuously omit his call for calm:
And in the wake of the verdict, I know those passions may be running even higher. But we are a nation of laws, and a jury has spoken. I now ask every American to respect the call for calm reflection from two parents who lost their young son.
Readers of this dishonest AP article will also have to read nine paragraphs before they play a rhetorical game with this Orwellian sentence:
In the week after the verdict, amid peaceful protests involving tens of thousands of people across the country, there was some violence.
Yes, in the same sentence the AP writes about peaceful violent protests.
The AP then lists some of the post-verdict violence, but nowhere near all of it.
In just four day, Breitbart News recorded 35 individual acts of violence, including racially-motivated assaults, vandalism, arson, and calls for violence.
This isn’t bias on the part of the AP, it is brazen lying.
