Cruz: Mainstream Media 'Echoes the Talking Points of the Obama White House'

In response to the litany of establishment attacks on him on Thursday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) told Breitbart News it is clear the mainstream media is using talking points from President Barack Obama’s White House.

“I don’t think anyone should be surprised that the mainstream media echoes the talking points of the Obama White House,” Cruz said in response to a question from Breitbart News on a conference call on the effort to defund Obamacare in the Continuing Resolution (CR). “The media have been President Obama’s most enthusiastic cheerleaders since the day he launched his campaign. That will surely continue throughout the course of this battle. But, at the end of the day, the media are not going to decide this.”

Cruz noted that Republicans in Congress “are united in that none of us want a government shutdown.”

“Tomorrow, the House of Representatives is going to vote to fully fund the government, every bit of the government even parts we may not agree with, the House of Representatives is going to vote to fund except for Obamacare,” Cruz said on the Thursday call. “And that is because Obamacare isn’t working. It’s killing jobs. It’s hurting Americans.”

“Now, when the continuing resolution comes over to the Senate, President Obama and Harry Reid may decide that they are so committed to Obamacare, they are so committed to preserving the exemptions for big business and members of Congress and denying those exemptions to hardworking American families, that they’re willing to force a government shutdown,” he continued. “But I think that would be a mistake. I don’t think they should do it. I think they should do what Republicans in the House are doing, which is listen to the American people.”

“Regardless of what happens in this battle, no one should be surprised that the mainstream media will continue to parrot the talking points coming from the Obama White House,” Cruz explained. “That is where bloggers are so important. That is where alternative means of communicating with the American people are so important because the facts and the truth are on our side and if we continue to make the argument and to win the argument, that’s how ultimately we prevail in this fight.”

The liberal Huffington Post published several factually inaccurate hit pieces on Cruz throughout the day on Thursday. CNN’s Erin McPike also attempted to pin blame for a potential government shutdown that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and President Barack Obama would cause if they choose to try to fund Obamacare after the House voted to defund it on Friday.
