MSNBC Sunday Panel Slaughters Romney 'Black Sheep'

As Breitbart News reported, MSNBC found Mitt Romney’s black adopted grandson fodder for a Sunday comedy routine. Kieran Romney, one of many family members captured in a Romney family photograph, elicited laughter from the show’s panel because he is, as far as they’re concerned, the “black sheep” of the family. Host Melissa Harris-Perry has since taken to Twitter to issue an apology.

I don’t make it my business to decide whose apology is sincere and whose is not; that’s between Harris-Perry and whomever she answers to. However, I do take note of the fact that at MSNBC there shall never be a dearth of opportunity to apologize. This, of course, is no isolated incident. This simply represents the way they do business. And, “I am sorry” or not, it’s not about to change.

Apologies merit mercy, but we will not allow them to be used as yet another tool to silence us or move the conversation along without calling out habitual despicable behavior.

A family portrait revealed the child sitting on one of Mitt Romney’s knees, surrounded by a plethora of other Romney grandchildren. The host asked what the caption of the photo should be, and a panelist began to sing, “One of These Things Is Not Like the Others.” Another panelist joked that the picture was representative of the “diversity of the Republican Party,” boasting only one black person. They all had quite the laugh at the expense of this child whose only crime was being adopted–and being black.

The irony of it all is that the left prides itself on its faux tolerance and concocted compassion. They especially love to flaunt their wildly romanticized support of blacks. That is, as long as those blacks remain on their plantation–thinking as they think and subscribing to their campaign of victimhood. Those who deviate from the script are kicked to the curb for being disloyal to the cause.

As a black conservative, I recognized the hypocrisy of the left a long time ago, and I have certainly been on the receiving end of the left’s wrath. Clearly, the leftist machine doesn’t care about blacks any more than they care about gays or any other group they credit themselves with loving. As a black conservative, I also testify to the truth that they don’t love blacks at all; they use us to promote their agenda and capture our votes. As long as we stay in our place, we’ll stay on good terms with them. Once we think for ourselves, criticize President Obama, rally with the tea party, or vote Republican, we’re open to attack, name-calling, and vile misrepresentation: Oreo cookies were thrown at Michael Steele, Mia Love was called a “house nigger” and Condoleezza Rice was insulted with terms like “Republican nigga,” “spray-on Negro,” and “token.”

There’s nothing surprising about this kind of treatment from the left. Anyone with a modicum of integrity would admit that the liberal playbook calls for race-baiting, which is spewed forth to silence the opposition or, at the very least, wrest control of the conversation. Nothing new here, and as the saying goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” So the beat goes on.

But MSNBC’s target this time was no RNC chairman, secretary of state, or congressional candidate. The target was a child–a child who apparently needed a loving family to adopt him and give him a shot in life. MSNBC, in all its purported left-wing tolerance and love, should applaud this child’s place in the Romney family–and on Mitt Romney’s knee–not demean, not make fun of. Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said it best in Johnstown, PA while on the 2008 campaign trail: “I believe the truest measure of any society is how it treats those who are least able to defend and speak for themselves. And who is more vulnerable, or more innocent, than a child?”

In liberals’ minds, however, this particular child isn’t worthy of their defense, respect, or even the home the Romneys can provide. The hypocrisy of the left only allows such for liberal blacks. So Kieran, young–and black–though he is, qualifies for target practice. After all, he’s likely to be a Republican and–even worse in their minds–a black Republican, which means he’s fair game. Their hatred for the right supersedes their required pretense as the party of love, compassion, and racial equality.

Of course, they don’t want an end to racial conflict at all. If that occurred, what would the likes of Harris-Perry or Chris Matthews or Ed Schultz or Martin Bashir–until recently–talk about on a regular basis? In the spirit of the Al Sharptons and Jesse Jacksons of the world, the lamestream media need racial conflict to remain relevant. And it doesn’t matter who gets hurt in the process.

Liberals continue to feel entitled to black support, but they won’t be getting mine. Examples like Sunday’s racist clown show on MSNBC further solidify my disdain for the left’s modus operandi and remind me of what they will never give me ample opportunity to forget anyway: I am no more interested in being a black sheep in their family than they are in viewing Romney’s grandchild as more than the black sheep of his.
