MailOnline Hires Piers Morgan as Editor-at-Large

On September 30, Piers Morgan was hired as editor-at-large (US) of MailOnline, “the world’s biggest English language web site.”

MailOnline reports that Morgan will “write several times each week, bringing his own experience and perspective to bear on the big US stories of the moment.” He will continue writing a weekly column for the Mail on Sunday and “hosting Piers Morgan’s Life Stories on ITV in Britain.”

Morgan celebrated his hire by saying, “As editor-at-large (US) I plan on breaking down the biggest stories that matter to Americans and analyzing them in a way that will generate discussions and create debate.”

Morgan hosted Piers Morgan Live on CNN from 2011 to 2014, where he arguably created debate to the detriment of his viewership.

When CNN president Jeffrey Zucker decided to “pull the plug” on the show earlier this year, The New York Times reported that Morgan admitted to “taking a bath in the ratings.” He said heartland Americans were tired of a “British guy telling them how to lead their lives and what they should do with their guns.”
