CorrectionPalooza: Another Credibility Blow for NYT Columnist Charles Blow

Blow130

Left-wing New York Times columnist Charles Blow suffered another major credibility blow this week when his hit-piece on Louisiana Republican Governor Bobby Jindal resulted in no fewer than three  major corrections:

Charles M. Blow’s column on Monday misstated the origin of a claim, which drew a rebuke from Prime Minister David Cameron of Britain, that there were “no-go zones” for non-Muslims in Europe, including the city of Birmingham, England. The claim was first made by a Fox News analyst, Steven Emerson, not Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana (who repeated it but did not mention Birmingham). [*deep breath* and…] The column also misstated the affiliation of Cal Thomas. He is a syndicated columnist whose work appears in The Times of Shreveport, La., not a columnist for the newspaper. [*deep breath*] And the column quoted an outdated estimate of cuts to the state higher education budget. Mr. Jindal recently proposed cutting it by $141 million — less than the $200 million to $300 million initially estimated.

This is the second time in just three months Blow has published a wildly misleading column. In late January of this year, Blow used the pages of the Times (and his Twitter account) to relate the story of his college-aged son being racially profiled by a campus police officer: [emphasis added]

I am reminded of what I have always known, but what some would choose to deny: that there is no way to work your way out — earn your way out — of this sort of crisis. In these moments, what you’ve done matters less than how you look.

There is no amount of respectability that can bend a gun’s barrel. All of our boys are bound together.

Using Twitter, Blow wrote: “This is exactly why I have no patience for people trying to convince me that the fear these young black men feel isn’t real.” Blow also tweeted the racially-charged slogans: “I can’t breathe” and “Black lives matter.”

Blow’s son is black.

What Blow did not tell his readers is that the police officer who confronted his son is also black, as is the campus police chief.
