CNN’s Anderson Cooper Hoaxed by Fake Quote on ClickHole

On Monday CNN’s star talent, Anderson Cooper, was taken in by fake quotes attributed to him on the Internet parody site ClickHole, a spoof of BuzzFeed.

Cooper found a fake ClickHole quote attributed to him. The parody quote was supposedly an Anderson Cooper quote delivered during a commencement address to the NYU class of 2015.

ClickHole had made up a series of fake commencement day quotes from various celebrities, Cooper being one.

The fake quote maintained that Anderson Cooper said, “Graduation is a big deal-bigger than getting a hole-in-one while golfing. People might think you’re lying about the hole-in-one, but when you graduate, you get a diploma.”

Cooper found the quote and jumped on Twitter to attack the site.

It wasn’t long, though, before Cooper was informed that it was just a comedy site and the “quote” wasn’t being promoted as a real Anderson Cooper quote.

Cooper returned to Twitter with a sheepish admission.

ClickHole is a fairly well-known and popular comedy site. Apparently Cooper had never heard of it until today.
