A majority of Republicans believe that the mainstream media are “the enemy of the people.”
According to a Quinnipiac poll released on Thursday, 51 percent of Republicans think the legacy media that have tried to delegitimize President Donald Trump since he won the 2016 presidential election with non-stop stories about “Russia collusion” are the “enemy of the people.” The poll found that 37 percent of Republicans believe that the media are “an important part of democracy,” compared to 66 percent overall.
Former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon declared that the legacy media were the “opposition party,” and President Donald Trump last year slammed the “FAKE NEWS” media–including outlets like the New York Times, NBC News, ABC, CBS, and CNN–as “the enemy of the American People!”
The FAKE NEWS media (failing @nytimes, @NBCNews, @ABC, @CBS, @CNN) is not my enemy, it is the enemy of the American People!

The poll, conducted April 20-24, has a margin of error of +/- 3.4 percentage points.
