One Of My Faves: A Man For All Seasons

In response to Hollywood Blockbusters and the Holy Season of Lent:

It’s too hard for me decide what movie is my all time favorite, but A Man For All Seasons is very high up on my list.

Lent is a time of spiritual discipline for many Christians, so this movie, about this intensely spiritual saint who believed that no lay ruler has jurisdiction over the Church of Christ, is a good one to set the tone. It was his adherence to that principle that cost him his life.

I don’t know if “A Man for All Seasons” is what you’d call a “Hollywood blockbuster”, but it did get the Best Picture Oscar for 1966 and Paul Scofield won the award for Best Actor. The film also won Academy Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, Costume Design, Best Director

“Spoiler alert”: He’s executed at the end, “the king’s good servant – but God’s first.”
