Taxation and the power to destroy

In response to Punitive Taxes: Backdoor Gun Control:

Should we at least offer a golf clap for liberals admitting that the power to tax is the power to destroy?  They’re usually so stubborn about ignoring that fact.  They think taxes can be ladled atop every sort of economic activity without suppressing it a bit.

But now they’re bringing taxes into the gun-control debate as a weapon, betraying some level of understanding that taxing a particular activity results in less of it.  I’m sure they’ll forget all about it when they resume agitating for more tax levies and mandates, while claiming that none of it will hinder economic growth, but we should take advantage of this teachable moment while it lasts.
