Shia LaBeouf: FBI Consultant Played Me a 2-Year Old Private Phone Call

During the promotional roll out of the film Eagle Eye, Shia LaBeouf told Jay Leno that an FBI consultant on the film had played him a recording of a private conversation with a girlfriend, one which took place two years before he was cast in the film.

The film, which was released in 2008, is a thriller about a secret government computer which is networked in to cameras and communications systems everywhere in the country. Apparently the FBI consultant wanted to demonstrate to LaBeouf how close to reality this concept was. At least that’s the story.

Movie starts promoting their films have been known to make up stories to help sell their expensive products. A story about calls being recorded might be helpful in the case of this particular film. But in light of recent revelations about the FBI and NSA scooping up call data for everyone in the US, LaBeouf’s claim doesn’t seem as far-fetched as it once did.
