He cops to the fact that they are real, but refuses to either confirm or deny the truly critical question, whether or not they took place long after his alleged “healing” had begun.

By not confirming that, he leaves open the possibility that his subordinates can lie on his behalf and claim these sexts were part of his pre-“healing” and pre-“changed man” history.  Rather than, like, barely a year ago.
