Sugary Drink Tax Fails in Telluride, Colorado

Voters in Telluride, Colorado rejected a ballot measure to tax sugary drinks yesterday. The tax was smacked down by a margin of 68% to 32%.

The tax would have added a 1 cent per ounce tax on sodas and sports energy drinks as well as on fancy coffee drinks and tea.

New York City Mayor Bloomberg attempted to ban large sugar-containing drinks, but his nannying was struck down by a state judge. An appeal is in the works. Other cities have unsuccessfully tried to nanny their residents away from sugar, Richmond, CA and El Monte, CA.
