If you thought history was the study of past events, apparently you need to expand your mind and broaden your horizons.
In a speech today, the president suggested that history is like a time machine or spaceship that goes backwards and forwards and even side to side.
People are scratching their heads at what this even means.
President Obama: “We are here today because we know we cannot be complacent. History travels not only forwards, but backwards and sideways.”

And the sad truth of the matter – perhaps what the president was getting at?
@WhiteHouse The only history that travels backwards & sideways is revisionist history.
