Democrats Increasingly Concerned By Campaigner In Chief's #BearIsLoose Shtick

In response to Obama claims he doesn’t watch the news:

I imagine the news gets especially “depressing” for Obama when he’s getting hammered by loyal partisans who are usually on his side – which is happening a lot, lately.

His #BearIsLoose shtick all over the country in the face of national and world crises is provoking blowback not only from his usual conservative critics – Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Fox News hosts – but from the likes of MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell, Senator Dianne Feinstein, Rep Henry Cueller, among many others. There is near unanimous condemnation of his non-stop political campaigning and tomfoolery during trying times.

On Wednesday’s Morning Joe, MSNBC anchor Mitchell said:

The golf course is not the best place to be, even though you don’t
really see him out there. But the fundraising, those trips are being
questioned for a good reason. You know, the trips last Thursday when the
Malaysian airliner was shot down, proceeding to Wilmington and then
proceeding on to New York for two fundraisers, that’s all being
questioned by people.

The Daily Mail reported that Feinstein has joined”a chorus of lawmakers voicing concerns that the Campaigner-in-Chief’s priorities are misplaced.”

Dianne Feinstein said yesterday that the president ought to put more energy into working with the international community to tackle the conflicts in Syria and Iraq, the Ukraine and Gaza.

‘This is a very hard time,’ she told MSNBC. ‘I’m not going to tell the president what to do, but I think the world would very much respect his increased attention on this matter, and I think there ought to be increased attention.’

And then there’s U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) who’s been ruffling feathers among Democrats for his hard-line talk about the lack of security on the border and describing  Obama as “bizarre,” “aloof,” and “detached.”

California Democrats are shaking their heads in disbelief at the president’s behavior.

“It defies every principle,” Garry South, former adviser to Gov. Gray Davis and a Democratic consultant, said of Obama’s pure-fundraising itinerary. “Official activities should always drive the schedule.”

Obama might want to open up a newspaper or turn on the TV because clearly he and his staff are not smart enough to figure out on their own that the optics of leadership matter –  even to his most loyal lapdogs and fellow travelers.

Here’s Dan Walters of the Sacramento Bee talking about the president’s latest 3-day fundraising trip to California – which he calls Obama’s personal playground and ATM:

President Barack Obama has been making lots of visits to California recently, but mostly just for golf and fundraisers, Dan says.
