Mary Landrieu Fenced In on Immigration

Louisiana Democrat Sen. Mary Landrieu is out with a new ad touting her alleged hard line on immigration, said hard line being a fence. She’s claiming her Republican opponent, U.S. Rep. Bill Cassidy is soft on immigration.

Unfortunately, Landrieu called a border fence “dumb” just last year in a Senate floor speech. She was expressing regret for having previously supported it at the time.

If your head is spinning, it should be, Mary Landrieu has all but put herself on three sides of the border fence issue by now.

“I voted for the dumb fence once,” she said at the time. “I’m not going to do it again because I learned my mistake when I went down there to look at it and realized that we could build two dumb fences or three dumb fences, and it’s not working. So I am simply not going to waste the money to do something that I know will not work.”

Additionally, along with her flip-flop and flip again problem with the fence, it’s still one more example of a prominent Democrat rushing to get as far away from Barack Obama just as fast as they possibly can.

Landrieu’s attempt to turn the immigration issue to her advantage is especially notable in light of President Obama’s announcement over the weekend that he would not use executive action to implement immigration reform until after the midterm elections.
