Konni Burton Wins Wendy Davis' District for Tea Party

Fort Worth–Tonight at the Stockyards, it was all smiles for Konni Burton (R-Colleyville), the grassroots conservative favorite who swept Senate District 10 in her run-off bid to become the GOP nominee in the state senate race for the November 2014 midterm election. Senate District 10 is the district of Wendy Davis.

She was declared the winner at 9:15pm (CDT), with Burton up 20% with 60.2% of the final vote (11,306) over the moderate Republican and former representative Mark Shelton received 39.5% (7,374) of the final votes.

Burton told Breitbart Texas “We are so excited.  We’ve been working for this for a year.  Our message has resonated with the voters and we couldn’t be more pleased.”

Tonight, 200 of her core campaign team and most ardent grassroots supporters came out to celebrate Burton’s expected victory in the run-off race.  She thanked them for their tireless work and said, “We’re going to take back SD 10, aren’t we?”

She also commented, “It’s not over.  We’re going to battle the Democrat but first, we’re going to take a few days of rest.”

Burton promised to bring the conservative voice back to the district seat that will be vacated by former liberal Senator Wendy Davis (D-Fort Worth).

Burton told the crowd that she got a call of congratulations from “the next governor of the state of Texas,” Greg Abbott, the sitting Attorney General, and GOP favorite.

Burton was among the select candidates that Senator Ted Cruz endorsed this election season.  Breitbart Texas has been following her campaign.

The evening’s early voting results Burton at 61.1% (9,812) over opponent Mark Shelton, the moderate Republican in the run-off, who then trailed at 38.9 % (6,237).

With final results now in, Burton moves onto November against the latest liberal the Democrats have to offer, Libby Willis, who was endorsed by Davis (D-Fort Worth).

Senate District 10 includes Fort Worth, Arlington, Mansfield, Colleyville, and other areas of south and northeast Tarrant County.  Burton is a Colleyville resident.
