HOUSTON, Texas — A Houston woman posted a video to Facebook shortly after purchasing a Chewbacca mask at a local store. Her infectious laugh has made the video go viral to the point she now has over 135,000,000 views.
Candace Payne purchased the Chewbacca mask at a Kohl’s store in the Houston area. When she returned to her car, she made a 4 minute video where she talked about the mask and then, eventually puts it on.
After donning the mask, Payne become amused by the iconic Chewbacca sounds emanating from the mask when she would start to talk.
The Houston woman begins her distinctive laugh that has made the video an international sensation.
Payne appeared on ABC’s “Good Morning America” after the video went viral. She told the morning news show’s audience the Star Wars character’s distinctive roar “was just calling from the bag.”
She was asked by the show’s host why she thought the video had taken off so exponentially. “The world, as a whole, is in need of a good laugh,” Payne responded.
Kohl’s responded to the free publicity by providing masks for Payne’s entire family. They posted the photo above on the company’s Facebook page to help her spread the joy of laughter.
Payne has received thousands of supportive comments. Minin Fehl posted, “Best video I’ve ever seen on social media. Made my day! I’m keeping it around so I can go back to it on not so good days to cheer me up! Thanks for sharing and way to go Kohls!”
