Police in Freeport, Texas, engaged in the pursuit of a chicken who was attempting to cross the road in the coastal community located about an hour south of Houston.

The chicken was discovered along a roadway near the town’s Church’s Chicken restaurant. When officers attempted to capture the rogue chicken, it fled to the parking lot of a nearby Buc-ee’s convenience store.

Officer Curtis Land made multiple attempts to capture the chicken who had now run afoul of the law. The chicken was somehow able to elude police capture and remains at large, the department said in a post on its Facebook page.

Officials said, “If anyone sees it (the chicken), we have a warrant for Felony Fowl Evading.” The post ended with a smiley face emogi.

The video posted by the coastal community’s police department received more than 10,000 views by the time of this publication. It was also “Liked” 469 times and was shared by nearly two hundred Facebook fans.

Sue Taylor Merritt, an apparent long-time resident reminisced, “Raymond Gore Sr., Joe Bruney, Does this remind you of Felix Bruney’s rooster left at the Port Cafe one night in the late 60’s…including Wright Gore, Jr. and George George Warny (i think) and possibly Gary Gore…”

Tiana Ryder reminded the department, “There’s a fishing net in the generator room, Freeport PD, for future reference.”

Further information in the case of the runaway chicken was provided by Jennifer Williamson who ratted out the chicken in her post, “He has been around bucees for a few days. One of my co workers seen him like last week sometime. Lol”

Church’s Chicken is a fried chicken fast-food restaurant that was established in 1952, the company’s website stated. It was founded by George W. Church in San Antonio, Texas.

Buc-ees is quickly becoming the convenience roadside stop of choice by Texas travelers in south and central Texas. Known for its iconic “Clean Restrooms” and beaver gear, the privately owned company is headquartered in the nearby town of Angleton, Texas. The stores are located mostly along major highways from Port Lavaca to San Antonio and north to the Dallas-Fort Worth region.
