U.S. Border Patrol agents working near the West Calexico Port of Entry arrested a Honduran national who had previously been deported as a member of the hyper-violent MS-13 transnational gang.

The agents assigned to the Calexico Border Patrol Station witnessed a man illegally crossing the border from Mexico on September 20. The agents made contact with the man and took him into custody, according to information obtained by Breitbart Texas from U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials.

The agents transported the man to the Calexico station where he was processed. During a records check the agents discovered the man, a 24-year-old Honduran national, was a member of the Mara Salvatrucha (MS13) gang. Further checking revealed the man was previously deported from the United States in 2012. The MS-13 gang member was transported to the Imperial County Jail where he is being held pending possible prosecution for illegal re-entry after being previously deported.

“The Border Patrol is committed to making our communities safe,” Assistant Chief Patrol Agent David S. Kim. “The arrest of this gang member is a great example of that commitment.”

Breitbart Texas has reported extensively on the criminal activities of the notorious MS-13 gang. Earlier this month, a MS-13 gang member who had twice been deported was arrested in Maryland and charged with the vicious murder of a local teenage boy. Earlier this year, Breitbart News reported on the arrest of six MS-13 gang members who were convicted in Virginia in the stabbing and decapitation murder of a young man they believed to be cooperating with law enforcement.

Breitbart Texas reported in April on another MS-13 gang member who was sentenced to 45 years in prison for murdering a 19-year-old woman and her 2-year-old son in New York. Two other MS-13 gang members were present during the murder. The woman was shot in the head and chest while her son was shot twice in the head.

Breitbart Texas’ Managing Director Brandon Darby has been covering this violent transnational gang for several years. In July 2013, Darby reported on four MS-13 gang members that were convicted on counts of murder, armed robberies, and firearms offenses. That trial lasted for four weeks. At that time, FBI officials indicated members of the MS-13 gang were active in at least 42 states and had between 6,000 and 10,000 members.
