Border Patrol agents in the Laredo Sector rescued multiple illegal immigrants stranded in the middle of the Rio Grande River that separates the U.S. from Mexico. The rescues occurred in separate incidents on Friday and Sunday.

Laredo South Station agents received notification from a concerned citizen that a migrant appeared to be stranded under the Juarez/Lincoln International Bridge that connects Laredo to Laredo Nueva Laredo, Mexico. Agents responded to the location and found a young man standing on one of the bridge support pillars, according to information obtained by Breitbart News from Laredo Sector Border Patrol officials.

The agents worked with the Laredo Fire Department to rescue the migrant with a small boat. After moving the migrant to safety, the agents learned the migrant is an unaccompanied Honduran 16-year-old who said he did not know how to swim. He told the agents he sought refuge from the swift river currents by standing on the pillar.  Officials did not say how he got to the middle of the river.

Two days later, Laredo Sector agents came upon a group of 11 migrants attempting to cross illegally into Texas. The agents apprehended two members of the group, officials said. The remaining nine migrants jumped into Chacon Creek to escape.

One female migrant quickly became distressed and called out for help as she exhibited difficulty in staying afloat. A Border Patrol agent jumped into the creek and grabbed her just as she was going under water.

Agents identified the woman as a Guatemalan national. Border Patrol agents provided medical assistance to the woman.

In total, the agents apprehended eight of the 11 migrants. Three others swam back to Mexico, officials stated.
