Surfer Charged with Attempted Murder Spent Part of Career in California

A professional surfer who was arrested for attempted murder in Hawaii last week spent part of her surfing career in southern California.

Local surfers remember her surfing regularly in the Newport Beach area. Surf photographer Tom Cozad told the Orange Country Register, “My perception was that she was a unique person, a colorful personality.”

Hansen was arrested in Honolulu last Wednesday after allegedly running down a 73-year-old woman with her car. She then allegedly tried to back over the victim.

Chris Khory reportedly saw the victim partially under Hansen’s car. He smashed Hansen’s rear window with a crowbar in an attempt to stop the ongoing attack, news reports said. Hansen fled the scene on foot but was arrested later that night. She is being charged with attempted murder.

Police initially investigated the attack as a road rage incident, but the victim has claimed Hansen was attempting to steal her car. Hansen reportedly tried to escape police custody Tuesday but was stopped before getting out the door of the intake processing center.
