Married 62 Years: Couple Stays Together til the End, Dying 4 Hours Apart

Two birds of a feather, Don and Maxine Simpson, after nearly 62 years of marriage, died just four hours apart, side by side. Their granddaughter Melissa explained that when Maxine died, Don’s soul went with her.

According to CBS Los Angeles, the couple met at a Bakersfield bowling alley and were married in 1952. Don worked as a civil engineer and had a stint with the U.S. Army in Germany. They adopted twin boys from a German orphanage and then returned to Bakersfield. There Maxine enjoyed a career as a nurse, and Don opened his own engineering company.

Maxine developed cancer and was bedridden. Two weeks ago, Don broke his hip and his health began declining, according to KERO-TV. In order not to separate the loving couple, the family kept them together in the same bedroom.

Family said that Don (90) and Maxine (87) were active with local civic groups. They are survived by one son and five grandchildren
