Badly Decomposed Body Discovered in Drainage Ditch on L.A. Freeway

LOS ANGELES, California — A badly decomposed body was discovered in a drainage ditch on a Los Angeles County freeway in Lakewood, California in the early morning hours on Thursday.

A Caltrans worker discovered the body around 1:30 am while conducting routine maintenance. The body was reportedly so badly deteriorated that search and rescue crews could not initially identify the deceased victim’s gender at the scene. It was later determined that the body belonged to a male, according to KTLA 5 news.

A tweet sent out from the California Highway Patrol’s Twitter account around 4 am indicated lane closures in both directions on Interstate 605 “due to police activity” although it did not make mention of the discovery of a body:

A news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department indicated that evidence pointed to the death as being “non-criminal in nature.”

The department has asked anyone with information about this incident to call the Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
