The fact that the Republican candidate for governor appeared as a trending news item on the massive social media site, which touts a worldwide scope and range of 1.3 billion users, served as a testament to Kashkari’s successful performance as he delivered strong comebacks to Jerry Brown’s jabs and low blows:

@neelkashkari your debate was amazing! Your the prefect combo for this state environment, business, gay rights&education #NeelkashKari #CAGov

The nearly hour-long debate was Kashkari’s first opportunity to demonstrate his credibility and to provide Californians a preview of the economic facility and political strength he would employ were he to become California’s 40th governor.

Several tweets conveyed the public’s sentiments about what they witnessed Thursday night:

#NeelkashKari is the future

Great debate. Lots of fireworks! Brown looked worn & tired. Neel looked fresh & ready to fight. Neel is the future! #NeelkashKari

For an incumbent with a supposed 16% lead #GovernorJerryBrown sounds very defensive #CAgovdebate #cspan #NeelkashKari

Others had less savory words for the incumbent Governor Brown:

In the 70’s #CAgov said of the #CADrought then,@CAGOP ought to bring it back.#CAtcot

#NeelKashkari is trouncing Gov. Brown, who’s coming off as grumpy, distracted & petty. Hope people go back & watch it. #debate
