Driver Survives 50-Plus Foot Drop Off Freeway Ramp in San Diego

A San Diego man miraculously survived a nearly 75-foot drop, but sustained back injuries, when his truck was launched from a freeway overpass before hitting the roof and side of a restaurant in San Diego’s Mission Valley on Sunday afternoon.

The truck reportedly went flying off of a ramp-connector overpass from westbound Interstate 8 to northbound Interstate 805, before hitting the popular Dave & Buster’s chain restaurant located at 2931 Camino Del Rio North, according to local Fox News affiliate Fox 5 in San Diego. California Highway Patrol said the incident took place at 2:56 pm.

San Diego’s Fire Rescue Department arrived on the scene shortly after impact and discovered the man conscious, inside of his truck, but with injuries. He was removed from the severely-damaged vehicle and transported by paramedics to Sharp Memorial Hospital, notes Fox 5.

The structural integrity of the Dave & Buster’s restaurant was checked to ensure the damages were non-threatening to patrons inside. Once deemed safe, the establishment was reopened for business that same afternoon.

A woman by the name of Madeline Clariza Rush posted on Fox5’s Facebook page that the driver of the truck is her “husband’s coworker in the Navy who has a son and a pregnant wife. Thank God he is still alive and his family was not in the truck when this happened!”

Rush noted that he will be undergoing back surgery and requested positive thoughts and prayers from users who had been commenting on the page. “Prayers are definitely appreciated! Thank you!”
