Cop Takes Cab in Pursuit of Armed Burglary Suspect, Makes Arrest

An LAPD officer chasing an armed burglary suspect down a street Sunday morning got a lift from a taxi driver who pulled over, picked up the officer, and helped him reach the suspect.

According to the Los Angeles Times, two policemen were chasing the alleged car thief, with one returning to a squad car to pursue the suspect by car and one giving chase on foot.

While the officer was running, “a good Samaritan driving a taxicab in the area observed the officer on foot and offered transportation,” authorities told the Times

The two officers eventually caught up to the armed burglary suspect, and the suspect immediately opened fire. The officers returned fire, critically injuring the suspect.

The officers were reportedly unharmed, and the suspect’s weapon was recovered at the scene.
