U.S. Border Patrol agents tracked five suspected illegal alien smugglers seen carrying large packages on their backs while crossing the International Boundary from Mexico into the United States near Calexico, California on Tuesday night.

According to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection release, the five breached the border fence, then ran north to Interstate 8, where a blue Suburban pulled over, received packages from the five, and drove west.

Agents responding deployed a Controlled Tire Deflation Device (CTDD), successfully halting the vehicle.

Over 257 pounds of marijuana were found among 10 packages with a total estimated street value of $154,000.

Of the seven arrested, five were found to be male Mexican citizens illegally present in the United States. The two other suspects were female Mexican citizens in their 20s, but also possessing Mexican passports and B1/B2 visas.

All seven suspects were turned over to the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force after processing at the Calexico Border Patrol Station.
