Dave Goldberg, the CEO of SurveyMonkey and husband of Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg, died suddenly on Friday evening, according to a Facebook post by his brother Robert. Goldberg passed away while on vacation with his family. The cause of death was not disclosed.

Goldberg’s death sent shockwaves throughout the Silicon Valley world. Though he was less widely known to the outside world than Sandberg, author of the recent bestseller Lean In, Goldberg was well-known within the investor community and the media, as a pioneer of Internet music and corporate leader.

“Dave Goldberg was an amazing person and I’m glad I got to know him,” wrote Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg in his own Facebook tribute. Others offered similar reflections. In her book, Sandberg had praised him for being a supportive husband. The Silicon Valley power couple had two children together.
