On September 5, members of Police Lives Matter 661 flooded Bakersfield police headquarters to show their support for the men and women of law enforcement.

Group members said they thought the time to stage a support rally was right in light of recent officer deaths in Illinois and Texas, and they wanted officers to know there were people who “back the badge.”

According to ABC 23, Police Lives Matter 661 try to gather “when there is negative talk about police in the media and when there are rallies in the US against law enforcement.” They contend that “officers need to be thanked for putting their lives on the line for their communities.”

One member of Police Lives Matter 661 spoke of officer deaths, saying, “It’s devastating. Little kids don’t have a father to come home to. Wives have to worry where their husbands are, for half the people who don’t even appreciate them. [But] we appreciate them, and we thank them.”

Breitbart News previously reported that 26 officers had been killed in the line of duty as of September 3 of this year. Thankfully, that number is down considerably from last year, when 50 officers were killed in the line of duty, but any death of any officer is one death too many.
