On Sunday, a man with a samurai sword caused a lockdown in a Los Angeles neighborhood after barricading himself inside a cutlery store.

The incident occurred shortly after 5 pm in Little Tokyo.

According to ABC 7, the man became involved an argument with a security guard after that guard asked him to leave store. Instead of leaving, the man “began to exhibit aggressive behavior and signs of mental illness. He began talking to people who weren’t there and making some statements that got the manager very concerned.”

Customers and employees alike fled the store while the manager called 911.

Police arrived to find the man had armed himself with knives from the store and was “threatening to harm himself.” As police attempted to negotiate with the man, he armed himself with a samurai sword and refused to surrender.

CBS Los Angeles reports that the suspect finally surrendered around 1:40 a.m. Monday morning.
