Amid California’s escalating gun and ammunition controls, Weatherby is moving its manufacturing facilities from Paso Robles, California, to Sheridan, Wyoming.

The move is meant to relocate Weatherby to an area where employees can actually live the outdoor lifestyle they build and sell.

The AP quoted Weatherby CEO Adam Weatherby,  who indicated that his company is tired of being in a position of treading water to keep up with new gun controls and regulations. He said, “We wanted to move to a state where we can grow into our brand. Wyoming means new opportunities. We are not interested in maintaining; we are growing.”

Wyoming Gov. Matt Mead (R) was thrilled to welcome Weatherby to Sheridan, and announced that the move includes Weatherby’s “management team and manufacturing operations.” This represents “an estimated 70 to 90 jobs and $5 million in payroll in the next five years.”

Mead made clear that the “Sheridan Economic and Education Development Authority (SEEDA) Joint Powers Board worked with the Wyoming Business Council (WBC) to secure a grant through the Business Ready Communities Program to help with the relocation.” He said, “This is wonderful for Wyoming and for Weatherby. Weatherby’s firearms will now be made in Sheridan and shipped all over the world. I am proud of the work done by the Wyoming Business Council, SEEDA, and all who helped make this happen. This deal has been in the works for over a year – good things are worth the wait.”

Adam Weatherby announced the move from California during the 2018 SHOT Show in Vegas.
