The ATF is offering a $10,000 reward after 31 pistols were taken from a vault in the building that used to be Compton city hall.
Compton City Manager Cecil Rhambo told KABC that vault contained “police department weapons. There were some weapons with no owner on file, some weapons registered to other people, some evidence weapons there”
The Los Angeles Times reports the pistols were taken “between March 6 and August 31, 2017.” The missing firearms consist of 23 Beretta pistols and eight Glocks.
The city began storing the pistols in the vault after the city’s police force was disbanded and policing authority was giving to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Fox News reports that the sheriff’s departmentt did an “inventory check” in early March 2017 and all guns were accounted for. They returned in August to collect the firearms and discovered 31 pistols were gone.
